Black Friday 2026 falls on Friday, November 27, and smart home gear is usually one of the categories retailers push hardest. This guide does not predict prices or promise discounts. Instead it lists Matter devices from our catalog that are worth watching for that week, picked on manufacturer specs, listed compatibility and how easy they are to set up, not hands-on testing. The product cards show the current Amazon price, so you can see where things stand before the sales start and compare on the day.
Matter means a device can work with Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa and SmartThings. The catch is the network underneath: Matter over Wi-Fi devices join your router directly, while Matter over Thread devices also need a Thread border router. If you are buying Thread gear, read the hub section near the end first.
Smart plugs
Plugs are the easiest way into Matter, and multi-packs are where Black Friday tends to be most useful. See our smart plug guide for more options.
The Tapo P125M is a compact Matter over Wi-Fi plug rated 15A/1800W, small enough that two fit one standard duplex outlet. It needs no hub, which makes it a simple default for lamps and fans.
The Kasa KP125M adds energy monitoring to the same compact 15A Wi-Fi format, and this listing is a 2-pack. It suits anyone who wants to see what a space heater or entertainment center draws.
Eve Energy uses Matter over Thread, so it stays off your Wi-Fi network and adds nothing to your router's device count. It needs a Thread border router, which makes it a good match if you already own a HomePod, a recent Echo or a Nest Hub.
The Leviton D215O is a weather-resistant Matter over Wi-Fi plug for porch lights, holiday displays and other outdoor gear. It can also pair with Leviton's wire-free Anywhere companion switch if you want a physical button.
Smart bulbs and lighting
Bulbs are often sold in multi-packs, which is where a holiday price change makes the biggest difference for a whole room. More picks are in our smart bulb guide and the lights category.
WiZ bulbs connect straight to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi with no hub or border router. WiZ lists 800 lumens, 2200K to 6500K and a CRI of 90 or higher, and the WiZ app adds SpaceSense motion detection when two or more WiZ lights share a room. This listing is a 4-pack.
Nanoleaf Essentials is one of the few Matter bulbs that runs on Thread rather than Wi-Fi, with a CRI of 90 or higher and full color. It needs a Thread border router for Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa or SmartThings. This listing is a 3-pack.
The Aqara T2 works in Thread mode on its own or in Zigbee mode through an Aqara hub. Aqara lists 1100 lumens and an unusually wide 2000K to 9000K white range, and it supports Adaptive Lighting in Apple Home.
The Govee BR30 is a flood-style bulb for recessed cans and track lights, with tunable white and RGBWW color over Wi-Fi. Govee notes it is not compatible with dimmer switches. This listing is a 2-pack.
Smart locks
Locks cost more than most smart home gear, so they are worth tracking well before November 27. Check your door type first: everything here fits a standard North American deadbolt door. Our smart lock comparison covers every model in more depth.
The Aqara U400 runs on Matter over Thread and combines a fingerprint reader, a touchscreen keypad and Apple Home Key, with UWB for hands-free unlocking on supported iPhones. Its battery is rechargeable.
The ULTRALOQ Bolt Fingerprint pairs a fingerprint reader with a built-in door sensor on Matter over Thread. ULTRALOQ lists a BHMA Grade AAA rating.
The Level Bolt replaces only the inside parts of your deadbolt, so the outside of the door looks unchanged. It runs on Matter over Thread and has no keypad, so you unlock with the app, auto-unlock or your existing key.
The SwitchBot Lock Pro mounts over the deadbolt you already have, which suits renters. This listing includes the Hub Mini, which bridges the lock to Matter over Wi-Fi, so check that bundle is what you are buying.
Presence and motion sensors
A sensor is what turns a few smart lights into automations that run on their own. Our presence sensor guide explains the difference between mmWave presence and PIR motion, and more models are in motion sensors.
The Aqara FP300 combines mmWave radar with PIR, so it can detect someone sitting still, and adds light, temperature and humidity readings. It runs on two CR2450 coin cells and works in Thread mode with no Aqara hub.
The Meross MS600 is a wired mmWave and PIR presence sensor that connects over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, so it needs no Thread border router. It runs from the included USB-C power adapter.
The Aqara Motion and Light Sensor P2 is a simple battery-powered PIR motion sensor on Matter over Thread, with a separate light sensor for brightness-based automations. Aqara lists a range of up to 23 feet (7 m) and up to two years on its two CR2450 cells.
Smart thermostats
Thermostats pay off over a whole heating season, and installing one before winter gets going means it starts learning sooner. Check your wiring before you buy, since some models need a C wire. More options are in our thermostat guide.
The fourth-generation Nest Learning Thermostat works with most 24V systems, and Google says no C wire is needed in most homes. It includes a Nest Temperature Sensor, and Matter lets you add it to Apple Home, Alexa or SmartThings after setup in the Google Home app.
The Aqara W200 is a 24V touchscreen thermostat that connects over Matter over Wi-Fi and supports Adaptive Temperature in Apple Home. It also works as a Thread border router and Zigbee hub, so it can be the base of a new Thread network.
The Meross Matter thermostat is a straightforward Wi-Fi model for conventional systems and heat pumps that keeps following its schedule if Wi-Fi drops. It requires a C wire and is not suitable for electric baseboard heaters.
Hubs and Thread border routers
If you plan to buy Thread devices, a border router is the one piece you cannot skip. Our hub and border router guide compares more models.
The HomePod mini becomes a Thread border router and Apple Home hub automatically during setup, and it has a built-in temperature and humidity sensor for Home automations. This catalog listing is a renewed unit, so check the condition before you buy.
The Echo (4th gen) is Amazon's main speaker and includes a Zigbee hub, a Thread border router and Matter controller support. It can set up Matter over Wi-Fi and Matter over Thread devices directly in the Alexa app.
The Aqara Hub M100 is a USB-A stick that works as a Matter controller, Thread border router, Zigbee hub and Matter bridge. It is a small, low-key way to add a border router to a room or an existing setup.
The Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2 is a SmartThings hub with Zigbee 3.0 and a built-in Thread border router, connecting over Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Unlike the older Aeotec hub, it does not support Z-Wave.

Which hub do I need?
Matter over Wi-Fi devices only need a Matter controller from your platform, which most people already have in a phone app plus a smart speaker or display. Matter over Thread devices also need a Thread border router. Here is where each platform gets one:
- Apple Home: HomePod mini, HomePod (2nd generation) and Apple TV 4K (Wi-Fi + Ethernet model) act as Thread border routers and home hubs.
- Google Home: Nest Hub (2nd gen), Nest Hub Max and Nest Wifi Pro include a Thread border router.
- Amazon Alexa: the Echo (4th gen) and several Echo Show and Echo Hub models include one. The Echo Dot and Echo Pop control Matter over Wi-Fi devices but have no Thread border router, so a Black Friday bundle built around one will not run Thread devices on its own.
- SmartThings: the Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2 includes a Thread border router.
- Aqara: the Hub M100, Hub M3 and the W200 thermostat are Thread border routers and also bridge Aqara Zigbee devices to Matter.
Pick one main ecosystem and add Thread devices there first. Thread networks from different brands do not always merge, but Matter's multi-admin feature lets you share a device with a second app after setup. Our protocol explainer covers how Matter, Thread, Zigbee and Z-Wave fit together.
How to shop Black Friday smart home deals
- Check prices now. Look at the product cards and listings a few weeks before November 27 so you know what a normal price looks like and can tell a real drop from a relabeled one.
- Check the exact model. Similar names can hide older versions without Matter, such as earlier hubs or non-Matter plugs. Look for Matter on the listing and the box.
- Compare per-unit cost on multi-packs. A 4-pack is only good value if you will use all four.
- Read bundle contents. Speaker and lock bundles vary, and a bundled Echo Dot or Echo Pop is not a Thread border router.
- Check fit before you buy. Confirm your door type for locks, your wiring and C wire for thermostats, and the base type for bulbs.
- Mind the return window. Holiday return policies differ by retailer, so keep packaging until each device is set up and working in your app.
Frequently asked questions
When is Black Friday 2026?
Black Friday 2026 is Friday, November 27, the day after Thanksgiving in the US. Cyber Monday follows on November 30. Many retailers start promotions earlier in November, so it helps to check prices on the devices you want ahead of time.
Do I need a hub for Matter devices?
Matter over Wi-Fi devices only need a Matter controller, such as an Apple home hub, a Google Nest speaker or display, or an Echo. Matter over Thread devices also need a Thread border router, which many recent HomePod, Nest, Echo, SmartThings and Aqara hubs include.
Will Matter devices work with Apple Home, Google Home and Alexa?
A Matter device can be added to any of these platforms, and multi-admin lets you add it to more than one. Support for specific device types and features can vary by platform, so check that your app supports the device category you are buying.
Should I buy older smart home devices that don't support Matter?
Only if they already work with your platform or a hub you own. A Matter device is the safer choice if you might switch ecosystems later, because it is not tied to one brand's app.
Is a Thread device better than a Wi-Fi one?
Thread devices form a low-power mesh that suits battery sensors and locks and keeps them off your Wi-Fi network, but they need a border router. Wi-Fi devices are simpler to set up and suit plugs, bulbs and other powered gear.
