Samsung has released a SmartThings platform update that adds support for Matter 1.6, the latest version of the Connectivity Standards Alliance standard. Samsung says Matter 1.6 improves stability and Group Control performance in SmartThings.

The update adds four new device categories: energy meters for real-time power monitoring, closures for specialized door and gate types, irrigation devices such as sprinkler systems, and soil sensors. The same update introduces SmartThings Now cards on the Home tab and expanded local control. When a phone and a SmartThings Hub share a Wi-Fi network, commands go directly to the hub, which Samsung says is about 30% faster than cloud control.

Samsung announced the update on October 6, 2026. The announcement does not give rollout dates for individual regions.
