Google's Google Home release notes for October 29, 2026 include two Matter changes in the Android app. Compatible Matter smart plugs and energy monitors that measure cumulative energy usage now show both real-time power and total energy consumed (kWh) directly on their device tiles and controller screens.

The Android app also now recognizes specific Matter closure types, including garage doors, gates, windows, blinds and cabinets. Google says these now get the correct device icon and controls instead of every closure being treated as a generic gate.

Google notes that some features may take time to roll out to everyone, even on the latest app version. The release notes list both Matter changes for Android only.
