In its Google Home release notes for October 14, 2026, Google says existing Philips Hue bridges now upgrade automatically in the background to local Matter control through Google Home hubs. According to Google, this brings faster response times and greater reliability, and you don't need to re-pair your Hue lights.

The same release notes say that more generally, if you have compatible Matter devices and a compatible Matter hub, local control now gives faster responses and better reliability. Google also rebuilt the Google Home app's controls for third-party lights, plugs and switches. The release notes don't name specific hub models, and Google says some features can take time to reach everyone, even on the latest app version.
