Amazon's new Echo Dot adds a Matter, Thread and Zigbee hub
Announced Amazon
Amazon has announced a new Echo Dot with a built-in smart home hub with support for Matter, Thread and Zigbee. According to Amazon, this lets the speaker control compatible devices directly, without a separate hub. It also has a built-in eero Wi-Fi extender that Amazon says adds up to 1,000 square feet of coverage.
The new Echo Dot runs on Amazon's AZ3 chip for on-device processing with Alexa+, and Amazon says its new speaker delivers 50% more bass than the previous generation. A kids edition, Amazon Kids Echo Dot, is also available and includes one year of Amazon Kids+.
Amazon says the Echo Dot is available now in Graphite, Glacier White, Agave Green and Coral Pink at a manufacturer-announced price of $99.99. Amazon Kids Echo Dot starts at $109.99, and an optional stand costs $39.99.
